about

This unconventional pop song opens with the cranking of a wind-up toy, which releases and brings us into the first verse. The lyrics are cradled by a ukulele and guitar accompaniment with a music box bass and light, driving percussion. In the pre-chorus, the wind-up toy returns, and a xylophone chimes in, mimicking the sound of a child's toy with an embellishing melody that conveys the feeling of something falling down, or falling apart. We're greeted in the chorus by a mystical synth that sweeps under the mocking lyrics "What's it like to look through glass eyes? What's it like to rest your hands on plastic thighs?" There's then another verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. We're taken into the bridge by a short musical break with the melody of the synth over the ukulele, guitar, and music box bass. The bridge bounces with the xylophone and now dual music boxes under biting lyrics ("You're all wax and plastic") until we reach a final pre-chorus that ends the one with one final "I'm putting an end to this."

lyrics

LYRICS:
I bet you learned pretty young to fake a smile. Baby that must be your style, mmm, while your clothes catch fire.

You know I won't lie, lie, lie. I'm not gonna ask you to pick sides, but I told you how he tried, tried, tired to flip the script... so I'm putting an end to this.

(chorus)
What's it like to look through glass eyes? What's it like to rest your hands on plastic thighs? Oh, there's no sense extending an olive branch to a hand that's made of wax.

It became clear when you whispered you were here, but your breath smelled like stale beer. Mmm, not gonna take that deal.

You all talk, talk, talk. Watch closely as I walk that walk, fighting harder than I ever fought. I'll blow you a kiss... while I put an end to this.

(chorus)

You're all wax and plastic. Shake your hand and you'll talk back. It's a pre-recorded message. You've got batteries in your back. Don't wanna go there, sit in your chair, and end up tangled in your nylon hair.

You incriminate, but you don't have the story straight. You don't have a place to debate the story's twist... so I'm putting an end to this.
